A walk through the historic Hafod estate which takes in the best of the area. Hafod was the eighteenth century home of Thomas Johnnes who amongst many other things developed the estate as an example of the then fashionable Picturesque style of landscape architecture. Currently the Hafod Trust are engaged in carefully conserving and renewing the paths and other features which made Hafod a well known and much visited place in Thomas Johnnes'' time.The grotto is a short cave passage with a waterfall view at its end.Starting place: NRW car park just before you reach the church called Eglwys Newydd on the B4574. Fork right off the B4343 about a mile north west of Pontrhydygroes

The route is an out and back trip that begins by crossing the river to a forest road which is then followed for as long as the user desires. The total possible is 2.16 miles but it is probably best to turn back at 1.5 miles as this makes a pleasant 3 mile overall trip.Starting place: The path down to the footbridge over the river. *** Before you proceed check that the width of the steep path is safe for your use as it is subject to erosion ***

A walk down the Ystwyth valley from Pontrhydygroes to Aberystwyth. Public transport available from Aberystwyth to the start has recently become a problem. Nevertheless this is a good walk. Challenging perhaps in distance but with no ascents. Can be taken in stages if you arrange transport support. Meet your support at Black Covert, Llanilar or Llanfarian.Starting place: Going downhill, the wooden kissing gate on the right, a few yards past Moduron Hafod Garage in Pont-rhyd-y-groes
